Chamber Honors Event Founder
Annie Higbee, founder and organizer of Windjammer Weekend, has a new piece of maritime hardware.
Higbee received the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce's Maritime Heritage Award at the Chamber's 67th awards ceremony December 7. 2007, at the Samoset Resort.
In recognition of her work in organizing the popular Labor Day weekend event for the past fourteen years, Higbee was acknowledged for her contribution to the region's awareness of its maritime history and for celebrating and connecting people and the community.
Windjammer Weekend now boasts the largest annual gathering of windjammers in the United Statesalong with such other activities as schooner tours, sea music performances, cooking contests, lobster crate races, a boatbuilding contest, a treasure hunt, a come-as-you-are dog show, and a big fireworks display. Higbee acknowledged that it took the efforts of the entire community to make the event a success over the years and gave special thanks to her hardy crew of volunteers.
